Beware: Another credit card scam

December 11, 2008

Just in time for the holiday season…another credit card scam.  According to Snopes, this scam is making a comeback.  It involves electronic thieves posing as credit card fraud investigators on the phone.  They already know your card number.  They say enough to convince you they’re legit.  Then they ask you to “verify” the three-digit security number on the back of your card.

Don’t!  The credit card companies should already know your three-digit security number.  Instead, call the financial institution that issued your card.  The old rule-of-thumb applies: be very careful when people call you asking for personal or financial information.

And if you have a credit or debit card with an RFID chip, don’t forget to keep it safe, too!
